Built along a small inlet of Lake Huron, Mississinawa Valley is a village with a rich-history stemming back to the days of European explorers expanding into the vast American countryside. The town of Mississinawa Valley was officially founded in April 1763, formed on the remains of a settlement constructed by the American General John Roberts. From the Wabash word nimacihsinwi, "it lies on a slope" - the town gained it's name from local populations that had settled long before the time of General Roberts. A name that lasts to today.
The town grew slowly, having only three hundred inhabitants by 1840. In 1846, the town contained four churches, one newspaper office, one flour mill, and six retail stores. Over the next decades, Mississinawa Valley grew rapidly - eventually becoming the thriving community we know today.
